Photography
Being always on move to various places in and around India, i have come across various oppurtunities to shoot pictures. I'm proud owner of Canon EOS-Rebel with a 28-70mm and a 75-300mm zoom lenses for the last 4 years and before that i was having a Yashica SLR. Now with so many rolls shot, I'm still learning and practicing many photo techniques. It really takes long time to learn photography. Regardless of possessing a technically advanced camera and accessories, what really needed for better photography is; Innovation in picture compositions, analysing the results, lighting techniques and more importantly patience to capture the right mood. I still remember a incidence when i waited for a long time for the clouds to clear to take a picture of the snow capped Har-Ki-Dun hill. The big reward out of it was when the picture turned out well enough.
To know much about photography, there are so many books in the market which are quite expensive and some times we end up buying a wrong one. Also info available at various web sites are not so sufficient for a beginner or an amateur. So, I have put in some beginners guide and articles which i have come across, for learning many of the techniques in the photography. Hope it will be useful to everyone !! Remember, one can improve his knowledge only through practice. For beginners, my advice will be to take note of the aperture and speed settings for every shot and later compare the results with your notes. This will help u in understanding the "what went wrong" and to gather new ideas. Remember, photography is an art. So, u need innovation and keen observation.
I own only two filters; one UV filter and one ND filter. After i started using ND filter i can see an enormous improvement in my results since it gets me the dark blue sky as the backdrop even during mid-day (while without a filter normally the sky will be washed out). U can even go for a Circular Polarizer as an extra one to reduce the haze and reflextions from the glasses.
A few words about the filters i own;
UV Filter
Just to protect your camera lens from UV rays.ND (Graduated Neutral Density) filter
Film can only handle a limited range of contrast. In a sunset photo, if you expose to capture color in the bright sky, the landscape will be black. If you expose to capture detail in the landscape, the sky will be washed out and white. You could use a big flash with a warming filter over the tube to light up the foreground. Or you could use a graduated neutral density filter over your lens. This is 2 or 3 f-stops darker on the top as on the bottom. So it equalizes the illumination of the land and sky.I don't think a beginner should buy any filters, except possibly a UV filter to protect an expensive lens. Infact, filters is a distraction when you should be thinking about light, composition, and subject. After you've burned about 30 rolls of film, then it might be time to think about filters. (This doesn't apply to B&W landscape photographers, who typically will need a couple of filters very quickly.)
Hey, have a look into some of my pictures in the Photo Gallery.

Trekking

The Himalayan mountains provide the most beautiful paradise of nature. With many of its nature to be explored and enjoyed, even our full life time is not enough to set our foot trails in each one of them. I often take off for some of the trekking routes it has to offer and enjoy its tranquility and beauty.
For interested fellow trekkers, i have put in some of mine and my friends trekking experiences, as well as some details about trekkers organisations in india.
For more information about Trekking and travellers experiences pls refer India Travelog.

Hi,
I'm from Southern part of India, Tamilnadu and at present stationed at Delhi, the capital of India. Being an Electrical & Electronics engineer from Annamalai University, Chidambaram, passed out in 1991, currently I'm into Software development for Power Plant Controls.
Being a nature loving person, Delhi's polluted environment was never to my liking. But, life goes on due to my profession. I love trekking, rafting on swirling Ganges, Catamaran and Water scooter rides. My liking (i would say passion) for trekking developed when i was posted at a Hydro power plant site during 1992 near Nepal/Tibet border in Uttarpradesh. I found lot of time to explore in the hills and trekked to places like Chota Kailash (on way to Kailash Manosarovar), Narayana Ashram, etc., and started liking the mightiness of the mountains challenging the human ability to explore them. The overwhelming silence broken with chirping of birds, rumbling water falls, lazy mountain goats, lush green meadows, soft white snow, glaciers and the warm nature of the native people and many other wonders of nature will invite anybody to adventure into the hills. My profession in Hydro power plants lead me to many beautiful sites and gave me an oppurtunity to explore the nature and in turn learn the true sense of everyone's life. My hobbies are Music, Photography, Games (my favourites are Table Tennis & Badminton), etc,.
Finally, i thank my friends and colleagues for helping me in many ways in creating and maintaining this site. Infact most of the articles in the humour spot are contributed by my friends. I also intend to introduce technical information pages which i have gathered during my profession, in my future update.
Bye now. Have a nice surfing.
